Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

USC Aiken Falls At Anderson, 1-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 1-0 contest at Anderson Saturday evening.

The Pacers are now 0-2 on the season while the Trojans improve to 1-2.

Mary Cecil was outstanding between the pipes, stopping nine of the 10 attempts on frame. She stopped five shots in the first half before tallying four in the final 45 minutes of action.

Baylea Payne led the team with four shots, including two on goal. Charlotte Mannella and Marianne Ross each had two attempts, with one each landing on frame.

In a scoreless first half for both teams, Ross had an attempt in the 13th minute that was stopped by the keeper. Less than a minute later, Payne's shot was sent toward the back of the net only to be stopped by a field player.

Head coach Tina Murphy's squad earned a pair of corner kicks in the early going of the second half that were taken by Ross. She connected with Mannella on the second one, who put a shot rocketing toward the goal, but it was saved by Jeanette Campbell.

In the 81st minute of action, the Trojans found the back of the net on a penalty kick for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. From that point forward, Murphy's team applied pressure, but was unable to get another attempt off in the contest.

The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they host Belmont Abbey at 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
