AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a pair of games to Columbus State Friday afternoon in PBC action by scores of 10-0 and 6-1.
The Pacers are now 5-13 on the year and 5-11 in league play.
After being no-hit in the first game, head coach
Jaclin Poole's registered its first hit of the game in the bottom of the first of game two.
Jessica Stanley was hit by a pitch on a 1-0 count. With one down,
Faith Cooke singled through the left side to put two Pacers on base. The duo moved up on a wild pitch. However, the team was unable to push either home.
Down 2-0 in the second,
Brooke Moore singled through the left side of the infield and hustled to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Maci Hutto. She was left stranded in scoring position.
With one down in the fourth,
Katelyn Powell reached on an error by the center fielder. She scored when Moore doubled home Powell to make it 3-1.
CSU pushed the advantage to 6-1 by scoring a pair of runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.
USC Aiken tried to get a rally going, but the Cougars managed to keep the home squad off the base paths.
For the game, Moore had a pair of hits and drove in a run. Cooke notched the other hit while Powell scored a run.
In the circle,
Rebekah Cook worked a complete game and had a strikeout.
Caroline Cockrell had five strikeouts in the complete-game loss in game one. Painter had a pair of walks while Cooke recorded one base on balls.
It marked the last home game for seniors

Katie Painter and
Katelyn Powell.
