USC Aiken Drops Two At Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a pair of games at Augusta Saturday by scores of 10-0 and 4-0.

The Pacers are now 3-11 on the season and 3-9 in league play.

In game one, the Jaguars jumped on top with three runs in the bottom of the first. USC Aiken held the home squad close, but a seven-run third broke open the game.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team tallied just one hit in the game, coming off the bat of Faith Cooke.

USC Aiken tallied six errors in the game, resulting in six unearned runs for the Jaguars.

In game two, Brianna Dow singled with one down and moved to second on Cooke's base knock in the top of the first, but both were left stranded.

USC Aiken's Holly Daum drew a lead-off walk in the third, but she was erased on a fielder's choice. Jessica Stanley got into scoring position on a wild pitch, but a foul ball out ended the inning.

Katelyn Powell's base hit put a runner on first in the fourth, but she was erased moments later, ending the frame. AU countered by scoring a run in the bottom half of the inning for a 1-0 edge.

The Pacers put a runner in scoring position in the fifth when Katie Painter walked and hustled to second on Daum's sacrifice bunt, but the visitors could not push the run across.

Trailing 4-0 in the sixth, Dow and Emily Ayers each picked up hits, but back-to-back outs ended the threat.

For the game, Dow led the way with a pair of hits. Ayers, Cooke, Maci Hutto and Powell all picked up hits.

In the circle, Rebekah Cook went the distance, giving up four runs (three unearned) on six hits. She struck out two.

The Pacers return to action Friday, Apr. 16 when they host Lander in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Prior to the doubleheader, the seniors will be honored for their hard work and effort.
