FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 6-2 decision in the series finale at Francis Marion Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 10-11 on the season.
Leo Horacio was hit by a pitch in the second inning and promptly swiped second base, but he was left stranded.
Sean McQuillan had a two-out single in the third, but USC Aiken was unable to bring him home.
Down 3-0 in the top of the fourth,
Jackson Hannon led off the inning with a solo round-tripper on an 0-1 pitch.
Marcus Mastellone led off the fifth with a single, but a fly ball and back-to-back strikeouts ended the stanza.
FMU tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth inning, but USC Aiken continued to battle. In the top of the eighth,
Morgan Hyde led off the inning with a triple to left field. Hannon stepped to the plate and two pitches later, he lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Hyde. However, back-to-back outs ended the inning.
USC Aiken was unable to get anything going in the ninth.
For the game,
Blake Seigler got his first start and worked 5.1 innings. He struck out seven batters and walked just two. Seigler gave up five runs, but only three were earned.
Austin Sandifer pitched two-thirds of an inning and had a strikeout.
Evan Condon tossed the final two stanzas and had four strikeouts.
Nick Tripp led the team with a pair of hits while Hannon drove in both runs.
The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they square off against Augusta at SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
