Four Net Double Figures At St. Augustine’s

RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 67-60 contest at St. Augustine's Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 3-4 on the season while the Falcons improve to 3-3.

Chidinma Okafor and Emily Trushel shared team-high honors by netting 16 points apiece. Delaney Trushel and Jentri Worley each connected for 10 markers in the loss.

Okafor pulled down a team-best five rebounds while Allycia Harris snagged four. Worley accounted for three of the team's eight assists while also registering a pair of thefts.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Delaney Trushel gave the visitors a 3-2 edge on a three-point basket. Okafor hit two free throws for a three-point lead. Trailing 10-8, Delaney Trushel found Okafor for a lay-up before Harris hit a free throw with 12 seconds remaining in the period for an 11-10 advantage.

The Falcons started the second quarter on a 9-0 spurt before Emily Trushel hit a pair of free throws and Worley drained a jumper. SAU pushed the margin to 11 at 28-17 but Okafor connected on a shot to pull within nine. The Falcons went on a 5-0 run to end the quarter, making it a 33-19 game at halftime.

Down 38-21 in the third, Worley found Emily Trushel for a three-point shot. Harris drilled two free throws and Worley made a shot to pull within 10 at 38-28. Trailing 41-31, head coach Mark Miller's team embarked on an 8-0 run to end the frame. Delaney Trushel nailed a three-ball and Okafor made a charity toss. Worley converted an inside shot and Emily Trushel made it 41-39 on a pair of free throws with eight seconds to go in the third quarter.

A Grace Crawford jumper pulled the visitors within one at 44-43, but the Falcons reeled off the next four points. USC Aiken would trim the margin to three at 48-45, but that was as close the squad could get the rest of the way.  

For the game, USC Aiken hit 20-of-46 from the floor (43.5 percent), including five-of-16 from distance (31.3 percent). Miller's team got to the line 19 times and connected on 15 attempts (78.9 percent).

USC Aiken held a 29-14 edge in points off turnovers. The squad also maintained a 20-12 advantage in the paint.
