Career Night For Emily Lammers Leads USC Aiken To Win Over Georgia College

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team notched a 3-1 victory over Georgia College Friday evening.

The Pacers improve to 16-6 overall and 5-2 in league play. The Bobcats drop to 8-19 overall and 3-5 against conference competition.

Emily Lammers slammed home a career-high 23 kills while hitting an astounding .457 to lead the charge. She accounted for 13 digs, registering a double-double. Alie Smith accounted for 19 kills and 14 digs while Cat Bodick hammered home nine kills on the front line.

Caroline Foster tied her career high with 56 assists to go along with five digs, two kills and an ace. Foster's 56 assists are the sixth most in a four-set match in school history.

Defensively, Kari Mercer led the way with 16 digs. Kayla Duggan and Anita Cookey-Gam each had 14 digs in the victory. 

At the net, Bodick blocked three attempts while Smith had a solo block and two block assists. Duggan was in on two block assists while Cookey-Gam had one block assist.

At the service line, Cookey-Gam and Lammers shared match-high accolades with three aces. 

Trailing 1-0 after the opening serve, Foster netted a kill, sparking a 9-0 spurt. With Cookey-Gam back to serve, Smith slammed home kills on three of the next four points while Bodick had the other kill. After an ace by Cookey-Gam and a miscue by the Bobcats, Lammers and Smith each had kills for a 9-1 lead. The visitors pulled within five at 20-15, but Lammers answered the bell with back-to-back kills. Smith tacked on a point for an eight-point edge en route to the 25-17 win.

Down 2-0 in the second set, Cookey-Gam sparked a 6-0 run with a kill. After a block from Bodick and Smith, Bodick hammered home a kill. Cookey-Gam served up an ace before Smith found the court for a point. Tied at 12-12, Cookey-Gam, Smith and Bodick posted kills for a 15-12 edge. Leading 19-16, USC Aiken embarked on a 6-1 run to end the frame. During the spurt, Cookey-Gam had two kills, including the set winner.

After dropping the third set, the Pacers went on a 7-2 run in the fourth frame to make it 18-9. The Bobcats made it 18-10 but Smith garnered back-to-back kills for a 20-10 edge. Up 23-13, Lammers accounted for the team's final two kills, including the decisive one, to end the match.
