AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team lost a 91-69 decision at Augusta Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 17-12 on the season and 13-6 in league play.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was led by
Dhieu Deing's 17 points. He added six rebounds as well.
Faison Brock totaled 13 points while
Robert Hill accounted for 11 markers, eight boards and a pair of blocks. Brock added a game-high three thefts while
Shaquan Jules and
Gus Rowland each had 10 points. Rowland tallied five assists.
Darius Bell added five markers and two blocks.
Kyle Tackeberry pulled down four rebounds while
Ryan Missildine and
Donaven Hairston chipped in two points and one point, respectively.
Leading 6-5, Rowland found Brock for a three-ball. Up 11-7, Brock found Hill for a short jumper. Brock canned a three-ball, extending the margin to nine at 16-7. After a Jaguar basket, Deing stepped back and nailed a shot from 26 feet out, pushing the score to 10 at 19-9.
AU battled back, taking a 30-29 lead with 7:01 to play. However, Brock nailed two free throws to regain the advantage for the visitors. USC Aiken was whistled for multiple fouls, resulting in four consecutive free throws by the Jaguars, giving the home team a 36-31 lead.
AU led 45-33, but Brock's free throws pulled the Pacers within 11 at the break. Immediately after the halftime intermission, the Pacers made it a six-point game, 47-41, when Rowland lobbed a pass from near mid-court to Jules for a lay-up with 19:18 remaining. It was the closest USC Aiken would get the rest of the way.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 23-of-63 from the floor (36.5 percent). The Pacers hit 17-of-21 from the charity stripe (81.0 percent). Vanderslice's team held an 11-10 edge in fast break points.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Lander in the regular-season finale. Tip-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
