USC Aiken Falls To North Georgia

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 10-5 decision to No. 20 North Georgia Friday evening in the first game of the series.

The Pacers are now 6-1 on the year, including an 0-1 ledger in PBC play.

Head coach Kenny Thomas' team jumped on top with a four-run second inning. Leo Horacio singled and moved to second when Alex Mills was hit by a pitch. Scott Huntley laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error, plating Horacio. Jeff Cyr reached on a throwing error, allowing Mills and Huntley to cross home plate. Moments later, Cyr scored on a double play for the four-run edge.

USC Aiken added a run in the third when Luke Leisenring scored on a sacrifice fly by Mills. UNG cut into the deficit with a run in the top of the sixth.

The score remained the same until the ninth – when the visitors rattled off nine runs to take a 10-5 lead.

For the game, Lindsey Robinson Jr., worked 5.2 innings. He struck out six batters. Robinson Jr., gave up one run on two hits while allowing just one base on balls. Austin Hohm worked 1.1 frames. He struck out a pair of Nighthawks. Henry Cartrett tossed a scoreless eighth inning, garnering one strikeout.  

Horacio and McQuillan recorded a pair of hits each while Cyr, Leisenring and Eric McGirt tallied one base knock each.
