Pacers Fall To Mountain Lions In PBC Championship

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 5-2 decision to Young Harris Sunday in the PBC Championship.

The Pacers are 32-22 on the season while the Mountain Lions are 35-19.

YHC jumped on top of USC Aiken with two runs in the second and two more in the third. In the bottom of the third, Scott Huntley drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a groundout. Jackson Hannon ripped a full-count pitch up the middle to make it 4-1.

The teams faced a lengthy lightning delay, but returned to action with Chandler Rogers at the plate in the bottom of the sixth. With one down, Luke Leisenring doubled to left center, but back-to-back outs ended the stanza.

Philip Watcher led off the seventh with a double to the gap in left center field. With one down, a groundout pushed him to third. Watcher promptly scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2. Sean McQuillan drew a four-pitch walk and swiftly stole second. However, he was stranded in scoring position.

The Mountain Lions regained a three-run advantage with a run in the eighth. Leisenring garnered a one-out walk in the bottom of the inning. Conner Durden's single pushed Leisenring to second. He moved to third on a fly ball, but a groundout ended the stanza with two on.

Alex Mills walked to lead off the ninth and hustled to second on a Trey Polewski single. A fielder's choice put runners on first and third and a groundout allowed McQuillan to go to second. However, a deep fly ball ended the game.

For the contest, Watcher led the way with two hits and a run scored. Hannon registered one RBI while Huntley also crossed home plate.
