Pacers Fall To Bearcats On Senior Day

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a pair of games on Senior Day to Lander.

Game scores were 10-0 and 8-0.

The Pacers conclude the season with a record of 21-29.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Hannah Price singled up the middle, but she was left stranded. Down 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Courtney Strauss rocketed a double down the right field line and moved to third as the right fielder juggled the ball, but USC Aiken was unable to push her home.

The Bearcats scored seven runs in the fourth – mostly on bloop hits – to take a 10-0 lead in the five-inning victory.

In game two, LU took a 1-0 lead in the first. Price singled in the bottom of the frame, but the Pacers were unable to get her to home plate. The Bearcats tacked on a run in the second and fourth for a 3-0 edge.

USC Aiken loaded the bags in the bottom of the fourth. With one down, Katelyn Powell singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Katie Painter, who reached on an error. Caroline Cockrell singled to load the bases. However, back-to-back pop-ups to the shortstop ended the inning.

The Bearcats struck for five runs in the top of the fifth for an 8-0 lead. USC Aiken hit the ball hard in the bottom of the frame, but it was directly to LU players.

It marked the final collegiate doubleheader for Leah Boghosian, Janee McCarthy and Hannah Price. The trio guided the Pacers to an NCAA Tournament berth during their time with the program.
