Durden Sets School Record In Win Over Paine

AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout Conner Durden set a school record with 10 RBI in the 18-6 victory over Paine.

The Pacers are now 25-19 on the season.

The 10 RBI ties the PBC record that was set by Chris Sosebee (UM) against Augusta State (4/2/10) and tied by Cameron Scott (CSU) against Clark Atlanta (2/4/12).

Durden led the way with a three-for-three performance at the plate. He had two triples, a homer and walked twice. His two triples tied the school record. The last time a Pacer had two triples in a game came on Apr. 9, 2005 by Darryl Pui against then-Augusta State.

Down 3-0 in the bottom of the first, Jackson Hannon reached on an error. A walk to Chandler Rogers put the Pacers on first and second. After Luke Leisenring drew a base on balls, Durden brought the three home with a triple to straight-away center field.

Trey Polewski and Philip Watcher each walked to load the bases once again. Sean McQuillan blooped a pitch down the left field line between two Lions, plating two runs on the double for a 5-3 advantage. Hannon's two-RBI single and a bases loaded walk to Durden extended the advantage to 8-3.

Durden's three-run round-tripper in the third pushed the score to 11-3.

Leading 11-6 in the bottom of the sixth, Blake Jenkins lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Smithers. With the bases loaded, Leisenring drew a walk to make it 13-6. Durden promptly cleared three bags with a triple to right center for a 10-run margin. A Jenkins double in the seventh made it 17-6. Smithers ended the scoring with an RBI double down the left field line in the eighth that scored Polewski.

For the game, Hannon, Jenkins and McQuillan had two RBI each. Hannon and McQuillan had two hits apiece. Leisenring and McQuillan each crossed home plate three times. Durden, Hannon, LaVale Hodges, Polewski and Rogers all scored twice apiece.

Jacob Rye got the start and worked a frame. Daniel Wiggins went three innings and picked up five strikeouts. Adam Hane, Harrison Olszewski, Zach Lang, Will Varnadore and Blake Seigler each tossed an inning. Olszewski, Lang and Seigler each had two strikeouts while Varnadore struck out three batters.

The Pacers return to action Friday when they host Flagler at 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
