FLORENCE, S.C. – The No. 6 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match to No. 1 Columbus State 4-0 in the PBC Championship Sunday.
The Pacers are now 16-3 on the season while the Cougars improve to 23-2.
After losing at No. 1 doubles, the tandem of
Francesco Satta and
Alex Sklizovic posted a 6-4 victory at No. 3. At No. 2 doubles, the duo of
Vicente Andrades and
Tales Silva came up just short, falling 6-4. The match secured the doubles point for CSU, giving the team a 1-0 edge.
The Cougars managed to win at No. 1, No. 6 and No. 3 singles to secure the 4-0 victory.
Although the rest of the matches were not allowed to be played out,
Alvaro Garcia Gil held a 6-4, 4-3 advantage at No. 5 singles and Andrades was up 6-1, 3-6.
The championship match appearance was the second in USC Aiken's history. After being seeded at No. 4 in the latest region rankings, the Pacers will now wait until the NCAA Selection Show to find out their next opponent in the NCAA Tournament.
