GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost the final game of the three-game series at Lander by a 5-4 score.
The Pacers are now 24-18 on the year, including a 14-10 ledger in league play.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, Watcher lifted a sacrifice fly that plated
Joey Smithers.
Chandler Rogers followed him up with a double to right field, plating
Trey Polewski.
David Jacobs singled home Rogers for a 3-2 advantage.
Lander tied the game in the bottom of the fourth and took a one-run lead by tacking on the go-ahead run in the fifth stanza.
Down 5-3 in the eighth inning, head coach
Kenny Thomas' team pulled within one. With one down, Watcher roped a single to right field and moved to second when Rogers registered a base knock to right field.
Brady O'Neil reached on a fielder's choice that sent Watcher to third. McQuillan doubled home Watcher while O'Neil went to third. However, the Pacers were unable to push across the tying run.
For the game, Rogers led the way with three hits while
Luke Leisenring posted two hits.
Garvin Alston Jr., went 4.1 innings and struck out four.
Austin Sandifer went 2.2 frames, notching one strikeout.
Henry Cartrett worked the eighth and registered three strikeouts.
