AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 8 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team netted a 6-1 victory over No. 11 North Georgia Monday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both teams.
The Pacers are now 14-2 on the season and wrapped up PBC play with a 7-2 ledger. The seven league victories established a school mark for PBC wins in a year. Additionally, the two PBC losses marks the fewest league losses in school history.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team took a 1-0 lead by claiming two of the doubles matches. The sixth-ranked and top tandem of
Salvador Bandeira and
Antonio Sabugueiro cruised to a 6-0 victory. Second-seeded
Vicente Andrades and
Tales Silva notched a 7-6 win.
Silva needed a third set, but bested his foe at No. 1 singles by a score of 6-4,0-6, 7-6. Sabugueiro, ranked No. 60 individually, netted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3.
Andrades posteda. 7-6, 6-7, 10-7 win at No. 4 singles while
Alvaro Garcia Gil overcame a first-set loss for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 win at No. 5.
Francesco Satta garnered a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
The Pacers will find out their opponent for the PBC Tournament Tuesday morning.
