MORROW, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 59-44 contest at Clayton State in the PBC Quarterfinal Wednesday evening.
The Pacers conclude the season with an 16-13 record.
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by
Kyrie' Chandler's 18 points.
Kwajelin Farrar accounted for 13 points and eight rebounds.
Melyk Taouil tallied 11 points, five rebounds, four steals and four assists.
Star Toomey came off the bench to snag a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with a pair of blocks.
After trailing 16-2 in the early going, Miller's team pulled within five by the end of the first quarter. Chandler hit a free throw and
Kanna Suzuki found
Melyk Taouil for a jumper with 3:33 to go in the stanza. Farrar took a pass from
Madison Williams and found the bottom of the net to make it 16-7.
Down 18-7, Chandler buried a pair of deep shots to end the quarter to make it 18-13.
USC Aiken continued its 11-0 spurt, tying the contest at 18-18 with 9:24 to go in the half on a jumper from Chandler.
The Lakers held a 30-20 lead, but Farrar hit back-to-back shots to make it a six-point contest at 30-24. Clayton State managed to hold a 34-26 lead at the break.
After trailing 46-26 early in the third quarter, USC Aiken cut the deficit to 13 entering the final period of play after a lay-up from Toomey made it 47-34.
Miller's team sliced into the deficit in the early going of the fourth period with a free throw from Taouil. Moments later, Taouil pulled the team within nine again at 53-44. However, the team could get no closer the rest of the way.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 16-of-50 from the floor (32.0 percent). The team snagged 48 rebounds and dished out 12 assists.
