Pacers Fall in Series Closer to Braves

AIKEN, S.C.  – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team fell 15-3 to UNC Pembroke Sunday afternoon.

USC Aiken is now 18-15 on the season and 10-8 in league play. The Braves sit at 17-16 overall and 7-11 in the PBC.

Garvin Alston Jr. got the starting nod on the mound, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out three.

The Pacers picked up their first runs in the bottom of the fifth. Alex Mills smacked a leadoff single to second base and then rushed to second on a ground out. After Mills took third on a wild pitch, he came across home as Cary Holloway was thrown out at first. Brady O'Neil then stepped up to pinch hit and slammed a home run to make it 7-2 against the Pacers.

In the bottom of the next inning, USC Aiken continued their attempt to fight back by picking up another run. Luke Leisenring floated a leadoff double to right center and then grabbed third on a wild pitch. A batter later, Mills singled to left and brought Leisenring home to make it 10-3 to finish off the scoring for the Pacers.

The Braves picked up five more runs across the last three innings to end it 15-3.

For the game, Leisenring, Mills, Jackson Hannon and Joey Smithers all grabbed two hits, while both Holloway and O'Neil had one hit apiece.

On the mound, Harrison Olszewski, Jacob Rye and Will Varnadore worked an inning each.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday, April 3 as they travel to Wingate at 6 p.m.
