AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a pair of games at Georgia Southwestern by scores of 4-2 and 6-2.
The Pacers are now 14-18 on the season.
In game one,
Courtney Strauss was hit by the third pitch of the game and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Katelyn Powell. However, she was left stranded at second base.
Trailing 1-0 in the second,
Sarah Sams rattled off a base hit to left field, but USC Aiken was unable to bring her home.
Head coach
Jerry Snyder's team knotted the game in the third. With two down, Powell singled and hustled to second on
Hannah Price's base knock.
Katie Painter beat out an infield hit to load the bags.
Kathleen St. Peter was hit by a pitch, plating Powell to tie it at 1-1.
Down 4-1 in the seventh inning,
Hanna Hyder blasted a one-out double down the left field line. Strauss singled to third base. Powell's groundout allowed Hyder to cross home while making it 4-2. However, a groundout ended the game.
Trailing 3-0 in game two, Price brought the visitors within one in the fourth stanza. After Painter rocketed a triple to right center field, she managed to trot home when Price crushed a two-run blast over the left center field fence.
The Hurricanes plated two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 5-2 lead.
Down 6-2 in the seventh,
Janee McCarthy drew a two-out walk. St. Peter blooped a single to right field. Powell reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Despite working the count full, a groundout ended the game.
McCarthy, Painter, Price and St. Peter all had hits in the contest.
