Pacers Fall To Mountain Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The No. 6 University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team lost a 90-87 contest at Young Harris Saturday.

The Pacers are now 24-4 on the year and 18-4 in the PBC. The Mountain Lions are 13-15 overall and 11-11 against league foes.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was led by Faison Brock's career-high 30 points. Ty'lik Evans added 22 points while Xzavier Barmore and Doniel Dean chipped in 16 and 14, respectively. 

Evans added eight rebounds, five steals and four assists while Barmore dished out seven assists. 

Evans found Brock for a lay-up with 1:51 to go in the first half for a 38-37 lead. On the ensuing possession, Evans found Dean for a three-point edge. Dean ended the first half with three more points en route to a 43-40 halftime advantage.

Brock opened the second half with a pair of free throws while Evans added a lay-up for a 47-40 margin. Moments later, Barmore found Dean for a three-ball, giving the visitors a 52-42 edge.

USC Aiken trailed 70-63, but Barmore got things going with a jumper at the 8:28 mark. Brock scored the team's next three points, pulling the visitors within two. 

Shaquan Jules took a pass from Barmore and knotted the score at 84-84 with 2:21 to play. Evans buried a three-ball with 72 ticks remaining, but the Mountain Lions scored the final six points.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 29-of-70 (41.4 percent) from the floor. Vanderslice's team connected on six-of-28 from the three-point stripe (21.4 percent) and 23-of-31 from the foul line (74.2 percent).

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host a first-round game in the PBC Tournament.
