Pacers Drop PBC Championship

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 16 University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team dropped a 93-86 decision at No. 24 Augusta in the PBC Championship Sunday.

The Pacers are now 26-5 on the season while the Jaguars stand at 26-5.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was led by Ty'lik Evans, who poured in a game-high 26 points to go along with four steals, establishing a PBC single-season record for thefts (123). Xzavier Barmore totaled 21 points and eight assists, setting the PBC Tournament record for assists. Faison Brock notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

USC Aiken fell behind 10-0 but battled back the entire game. The Pacers cut the deficit to seven on a three-ball from Evans at the 12:07 mark, but the squad saw itself down by 14 moments later.

However, USC Aiken cut the advantage to three with 6:56 to play in the half. Barmore found Evans on a break and he pulled up, draining a 22-foot shot to make it 31-28. Augusta pushed the score to 47-32 before Kyle Tackeberry hit a three-point shot and Barmore made a runner in the paint just before halftime, pulling the visitors within 10 at 47-37.

Down 61-50, Evans and Barmore each hit shots from distance, making it a five-point game with 13:07 to go.

The Jaguars managed to extend the lead to 14 at 82-68, but the Pacers went on a 10-0 spurt, which was capped by a three-point shot from Evans with 3:28 to play, but Vanderslice's team could get no closer the rest of the way.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 30-of-66 from the floor (45.5 percent), including 12-of-26 from downtown (46.2 percent). The squad buried 14-of-20 from the charity stripe (70 percent).

For their hard work in the tournament, Barmore and Evans each picked up all-tournament team honors.

The Pacers will watch the NCAA Tournament selection show tonight to determine their next opponent on Saturday, March 16.
