Pacers Upend Nationally Ranked Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team knocked off the No. 6/15 Georgia College Bobcats 5-3 Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 11-4 on the year and 3-1 in league play. The Bobcats are now 9-5 overall and 3-1 against PBC foes.

Head coach Kenny Thomas' team jumped on top with a run in the top of the first. Sean McQuillan reached on an error. McQuillan hustled to third on a single from Luke Leisenring before racing home on a fielding error by the right fielder.

The Bobcats countered with a three-run second inning for a 3-1 advantage. However, USC Aiken shut down the home squad the rest of the way.

Still trailing 3-1, Thomas' team took the lead with a four-run seventh inning. With one down in the seventh, Chandler Rogers belted a single through the left side of the infield. Two batters later, Jackson Hannon reached on an error, pushing Rogers to third. McQuillan singled home Rogers to make it 3-2. Leisenring followed it up with a base knock, plating Hannon and McQuillan for a 4-3 advantage. Conner Durden rocketed a double to left, scoring Leisenring for a 5-3 lead.

Georgia College managed to get a runner on base in each of the last three frames, but Henry Cartrett shut down the Bobcats.

Leisenring pounded out three hits in the game. McQuillan crossed home twice.

Mitch Spence worked six frames en route to earning the win. He struck out five batters and did not allow a walk. Cartrett tossed the final three stanzas, striking out three and walking none for the save.

For the game, USC Aiken tallied five runs on seven hits with two miscues. The Bobcats had three runs on seven hits and eight errors.
