FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team dropped a 20-4 decision to Francis Marion Sunday.
Trailing 6-0 heading into the fourth, USC Aiken started to try chipping away at the Patriots lead by picking up two runs of their own.
With one out,
Luke Leisenring shot a double over to left center and was followed up with another double by
Blake Jenkins to bring Leisenring across home plate. Jenkins moved to third on
Cary Holloway's grounder and scored when
Trey Polewski sent a double searing down the left field line to make it 6-2.
FMU added five runs over the next two frames before the Pacers struck again in the seventh.
Polewski started things off with a single to third. With two down,
Sean McQuillan recorded a base hit.
Alex Mills stepped up and slapped a single to center, bringing home Polewski to make it 11-3.
Head coach
Kenny Thomas' team pushed across a run in the eighth. Leisenring singled to right field and was immediately pushed to third by a single from Jenkins. Leisenring scored on a double play for the squad's final run.
For the game, Leisenring, Jenkins and Polewski all had two hits. McQuillan and Mills grabbed one hit apiece.
