Three Score In Double Figures At Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost an 83-64 decision at Lander Saturday.

The Pacers are now 14-12 overall and 10-10 in league play. The Bearcats are now 20-6 overall and 17-3 against conference foes.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Melyk Taouil's 14-point, 10-rebound performance in 36 minutes of work. Alex Canady contributed 14 points while Kyrie' Chandler totaled 13 points.

Kwajelin Farrar accounted for eight points, seven boards and three blocks in the loss. Madison Williams dished out a team-high seven assists. 

USC Aiken trailed 30-9 early in the second period, but Miller's team battled back, embarking on an 11-0 run. Williams found Canady for a lay-up. Williams converted an inside shot at the 6:36 mark. Chandler hit a pair of charity tosses before Farrar found the bottom of the net off a pass from Taouil. Chandler ended the run with a shot from downtown. 

Down by 17, Star Toomey hit a free throw before finding Taouil for a bucket just prior to intermission, making it 37-23.

Miller's team started the third quarter strong. Farrar hit a shot and Chandler canned a shot from downtown. Taouil hit a jumper and Farrar sliced through the defense for a lay-up, pulling the team within seven. Moments later, a lay-up from Taouil brought the visitors within six at 45-39, but it was as close as the squad would get.   

For the game, USC Aiken hit 27-of-57 from the floor (47.4 percent), including five-of-15 from downtown (33.3 percent). 

With other results in the PBC on Saturday, the USC Aiken women's basketball team clinched a spot in the upcoming PBC Tournament.
