HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a pair of games at Coker Sunday by scores of 6-0 and 5-0.
The Pacers are now 3-3 on the season while the Cobras are 6-0.
In the opening game, head coach
Jerry Snyder's team loaded the bases in the first. With two down,
Hannah Price singled and moved to second when
Katelyn Powell registered a base knock.
Sydney Burk walked, but the squad was unable to get on the board.
Sarah Sams ripped a double to the gap in left center to lead off the second stanza and hustled to third on an infield hit from
Courtney Strauss, but a groundout ended the threat. Burk and
Katie Painter were left stranded in the third and fourth frames.
The Cobras pushed across a run in the third and another in the fourth for a 2-0 lead before scoring four runs in the fifth.
For the game, Painter and Sams had two hits apiece.
In the nightcap, USC Aiken fell behind 2-0 after the first frame, but nearly evened the contest in the fourth inning. Strauss led off with a triple to left field. However, she was erased on a fielder's choice. Powell's base knock pushed Price to third, but a groundout ended the inning.
