AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team earned a 7-0 victory over Belmont Abbey Friday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.
The doubles competition – now worth only one total point – went to the Pacers rather quickly. At No. 3,
Edith Croda and
Karina Blas rolled to a 6-1 victory.
Elena Bompieri and
Teresa Franco Dias teamed up for a 6-3 victory at the top spot, securing the point.
Alice Neves and Victoria Giannacini wrapped up play with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
Blas gave the Pacers a 2-0 edge with her 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 in singles action. Giannaccini was not far behind, winning 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 slot. Dias pushed the score to 4-0 with a three-set victory at No. 2. She won by scores of 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
Bompieri pushed the margin to 5-0 with a three-set win at the top spot. She won by scores of 6-2, 6-7, 6-1. Croda made it 6-0 with her 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 spot.
Rebekka Heigermoser sealed the shutout with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 6 position.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they host Erskine at 1 p.m.
