Two Score In Double Figures In Loss At No. 14 North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 64-53 decision at No. 14 North Georgia Sunday evening.

The Pacers are now 4-4 on the year and 0-1 in league play. The Nighthawks are 8-1 overall and 1-0 against PBC schools.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was paced by Kanna Suzuki and Melyk Taouil, who each netted 10 points. Alexis Mack and Rikoya Anderson chipped in nine points apiece

Kwajelin Farrar accounted for five points and shared team-high honors of seven rebounds with rookie Chesney Gardner.

A three-ball by Taouil gave the Pacers their lone lead of the game at 3-2. However, the team battled the Nighthawks tooth-and-nail. Down 15-8, Mack drained a jumper before hitting a charity toss on the next possession, pulling the team within four. UNG made it 23-11 before Grace Crawford hit a three-point shot. Suzuki and Mack hit free throws, making it a 23-17 contest.

Anderson's three-point shot early in the second quarter pulled the visitors within three, but it was as close as the team could get.

After being outscored 18-7 in the third frame, Miller's team registered a 19-6 edge over the final 10 minutes of play. The six points allowed during the stretch marked the fifth-fewest allowed by USC Aiken in a quarter. It also marked the fewest points allowed by the Pacers in the fourth quarter of a game, tying the mark set against Florida Southern (11/29/15) and tied against Francis Marion (2/20/16).

For the game, USC Aiken hit 15-of-44 from the floor (34.1 percent), including seven-of-19 from downtown (36.8 percent). The squad got to the charity stripe 21 times and calmly sank 16 shots (76.2 percent).

Miller's team held a 26-24 edge on the defensive glass. USC Aiken also maintained a 31-24 advantage in points off the bench as well as an 8-5 margin in second-chance points.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host Columbus State at 5:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
