GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost an 82-70 contest to Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 0-2 on the year while the Bears are 1-1.
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by
Kwajelin Farrar's double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Newcomer
Alexis Mack tallied 14 markers on five-of-10 shooting from the floor.
Melyk Taouil tallied 10 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds while
Madison Williams hit double figures with 10 points. Williams dished out four assists in 35 minutes of work.
Kanna Suzuki buried three shots for distance for nine points while
Alex Canady and
Chesney Gardner added seven and six points, respectively.
USC Aiken led 8-3 after Williams and Suzuki canned shots from downtown in the first quarter. Up 11-7, Farrar's lay-up extended the lead to six. A pair of charity tosses from Taouil made it 15-7 in favor of the Pacers, but L-R countered with a 13-0 spurt.
The Bears managed to hold a 47-27 lead at the break, but Miller's team fought back and trailed 62-51 at the end of the third quarter.
USC Aiken kept the margin at 11 multiple times in the fourth quarter, but the team could not get any closer.
For the match, USC Aiken hit 27-of-71 (38.0 percent) from the floor, including six-of-17 from downtown (35.3 percent). Miller's team controlled the paint, outscoring the designated home team 40-20.
