HARROGATE, Tenn. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team lost an 83-72 decision at No. 6 Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 0-4 on the year while the Railsplitters are 3-1.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was led by
Faison Brock's double-double effort of 15 points and 10 rebounds in 39 minutes of work. He also added four assists and a steal.
Xzavier Barmore totaled a team-high 24 points. He chipped in six assists and four rebounds in 36 minutes of action.
Gus Rowland went for double figures, netting 13 points.
Robert Hill and
Damontez Oliver each contributed six points in the loss.
After trailing 12-0, Barmore got things going with a three-ball. Hill hit a jumper prior to Barmore draining another shot from downtown to make it 12-8. Trailing 14-10, Rowland hit a pair of charity tosses before Barmore tied it with a jumper in the paint at the 11:14 mark. An Oliver three-point shot gave USC Aiken a 17-16 edge with 10:44 to play in the half.
The teams countered one another and USC Aiken took a 31-30 lead when
Dhieu Deing canned a shot off a pass from Hill. LMU managed to take a 35-33 lead into the break.
With just over 14 minutes to play, Rowland knotted the game at 43-43 on a free throw. Barmore's three-point shot moments later gave the Pacers a 47-45 advantage. Rowland's shot from downtown made it 52-47.
The Railsplitters tried to take control, but USC Aiken pulled within one on a jumper from Barmore with 3:55 to go. However, LMU outscored the visitors 16-6 the rest of the way, securing the victory.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 26-of-68 from the floor (38 percent), including 10-of-32 from the floor (31 percent). The squad out-rebounded the Railsplitters 37-36. Vanderslice's team forced 17 turnovers, converting the miscues into 17 points.
