AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 3-2 decision to North Georgia Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 4-9 on the year, including 2-3 in league play. The Nighthawks stand at 5-8-1 overall and 2-3 against conference foes.
Trailing 1-0 in the early going, head coach
Ike Ofoje's team knotted the score at the 35:22 mark.
Chukwudi Apugo stole a pass and raced down the pitch before rocketing a shot from the right side of the box, tying the contest at 1-1.
In the 41
st minute, Apugo and
Giuseppe Cimino connected on back-to-back passes to
Ricardo Pineda, who promptly blasted home the ball to make it 2-1 heading into intermission.
The Nighthawks scored two goals in the first 25 minutes of the second half, taking a 3-2 lead. However, USC Aiken would not quit.
David Box's attempt in the 82
nd minute was saved by the keeper.
Austin Boafo garnered a shot at the 83:39 mark. USC Aiken earned a corner kick, which Box took. Despite a solid effort, the team was unable to get an attempt off on the set piece.
Ofoje's team earned three corner kicks in a 40-second span and
Ranaldo Bailey nearly tied the match. However, his shot hit the post in the 88
th minute of action.
For the match, each team had 10 shots, including six on goal. Ofoje's squad earned seven corner kicks.
Brendan Gribek played all 90 minutes in goal, stopping three shots.
