Pacers Drop Road Match; Martinez Shatters PBC All-Time Digs Mark

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision at Augusta Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 24-4 overall and 8-3 in league action. The Jaguars are 23-8 overall and 7-4 against conference foes.

Midway through the third set, Rebecca Martinez notched her 2,505 career dig, becoming the all-time digs leader in PBC history. She led everyone with 21 digs in the match.

Christine Carroll led everyone with 14 posted a match-high 14 kills while Abbey Schad accounted for 10 kills and a .474 attack percentage. Avery Macklin added seven kills in the contest.

Alli Bell dished out a match-high 30 assists to go along with seven digs and two kills. Emily Duggan accounted for 10 digs and three aces in the match.

Trailing 17-15 in the first set, Bell found Macklin for a kill. On the ensuing play, she found Schad, knotting the contest at 17-17. However, the home team embarked on a 5-0 spurt and the Pacers were unable to even the score again in the frame.

Down 15-14 in the second set, Macklin tied the score with a kill. After a ball handling error on the home team, Duggan served up two aces for an 18-15 edge. However, the Jaguars took a 22-19 lead before Carroll and Bell notched kills. A miscue by the Jaguars knotted the score at 22-22. After trading the next two points, AU secured the next two points for the win.

The Pacers led 9-8 when Carroll and Spurlin blocked Madison Malloch. AU took a 16-13 edge moments later, forcing a time-out. After the break, Schad blocked two attempts before an attack error tied it at 16-16. However, another run by the home team propelled the squad to a five-point win.
