AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over North Greenville Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-2 on the season while the Crusaders also stand at 1-2.
After a scoreless first half, head coach
Hilary George's team continued attacking in the offensive third of the pitch.
Monica Armendariz registered the first two attempts for either team in the period before
Willa Olson's attempt in the 59
th minute of play was saved.
Makenzie Cude stopped two shots moments later, keeping the contest scoreless.
A foul in the box by the Crusaders provided George's team with a penalty kick in the 71
st minute. Armendariz lined up the ball and promptly fired the ball into the lower left corner of the goal for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
For the match, USC Aiken held a 15-7 advantage in shots, including 10-5 on goal.
In goal, Cude had five saves between the pipes while playing all 90 minutes.
