AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 5-1 decision to Flagler in the team's PBC opener Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in league play. The Saints are 5-2 overall and 3-1 against conference foes.
Monica Armendariz nearly got USC Aiken on the board, but her shot missed wide in the seventh minute of action.
Kaitlyn Armstrong's attempt was saved at the 11:05 mark, keeping the match scoreless.
In the 13
th minute, the Saints fired a shot toward the frame, but
Amanda Raleigh stepped into the direction of the kick, coming up with an outstanding stop en route to keeping the visitors off the board. However, the Saints scored in the 14
th minute of play. The score was 2-0 at the break.
Minutes into the second period,
Summer Ricciardi launched an attempt, but it sailed wide of the frame.
Trailing 3-0 in the 62
nd minute of play, USC Aiken was awarded a corner kick.
Amanda Giordano took the kick and placed it into the box, finding
Sydney Failla for the score. Giordano was credited with an assist on the play.
The visitors found the back of the net for a pair of scores in the closing minutes.
Makenzie Cude played all 90 minutes between the pipes and stopped three shots in the loss.
