AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team split the regular-season doubleheader finale against UNC Pembroke, winning 6-3 before falling 6-0.
The Pacers conclude their season with a record of 15-35 overall and 5-15 in league play.
Head coach
Jerry Snyder's team looked sharp in the opener. The Braves tried to get on the board early, but
Chandler Terrapin shut down the opposition.
After a scoreless first inning, USC Aiken got on the board in the second. Terrapin launched an 0-1 pitch over the left field line for a 1-0 lead. On the very next pitch,
Sydney Kate Murphy doubled to straight-away center field. Two batters later,
Maci Hutto's single pushed Murphy to third.
Jessica Stanley lifted a sacrifice fly to left field for a 2-0 advantage.
After the Braves scored a run in the third, USC Aiken went back to work.
Katelyn Powell lined a one-out double into play.
Hannah Price lifted a fly ball to right field, pushing Powell to third. Terrapin belted her second homer of the day for a 4-1 margin.
UNCP pulled within one at 4-3, but Snyder's team stayed on top. In the bottom of the sixth, the Pacers added a pair of runs for insurance. Price singled to left and was lifted for a pinch runner. Terrapin drew a walk and was relieved for
Deja Robinson as a pinch runner. Boghosian advanced to third on a fly ball prior to Robinson swiping second.
Courtney Strauss singled up the middle, plating both for a 6-3 lead the team would not relinquish.
Terrapin made quick work of the Braves in the seventh, retiring the side in order.
Lyndie Dorgan fielded the last out and flipped it to first, securing the win. During the victory,
Brielle Jungblut made a pair of outstanding catches (one to end the first and a diving one to start the second), keeping the visitors off the board and off the base paths.
For the game, Terrapin tossed a complete game. She struck out four en route to earning the win. At the plate, Terrapin led the way with two homers and three RBI. Hutto added a pair of hits in the contest.
In the nightcap, the visitors got on the board with four runs in the second and managed to keep USC Aiken at bay. Snyder's team had a few opportunities, but the Braves were able to preserve the shutout.
In the finale, Powell went two-for-three. Boghosian and Terrapin each had a hit while
