ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 5-4 game at Flagler Saturday afternoon in a league contest.
The Pacers are now 30-17 overall and 21-8 in league play.
Head coach
Kenny Thomas' team jumped on top, plating four runs through the first two frames.
Daulton Weeks laced a one-out single down the left field line. Two batters later,
Nile Goings ripped a double to the gap in left center field, scoring Weeks for the 1-0 edge.
USC Aiken's bats were back at work in the second inning. After
Brady O'Neil walked,
Chandler Rogers lifted a single to right field. After a fielder's choice erased O'Neil, a wild pitch allowed Rogers to scoot to third while
Jose Bonilla raced to second base. Two batters later,
Brian Parreira launched a three-run homer over the right field wall for a 4-0 advantage.
The Saints got back into the game with a pair of runs in the fourth frame. The home team tied it with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth.
USC Aiken had a chance to regain the lead in the ninth.
Philip Watcher beat out a base hit to the shortstop to lead things off. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt form O'Neil. With two down, Bonilla walked. However, a fielder's choice ended the threat.
Flagler recorded the game-winning hit with two outs in the ninth.
For the game, Parreira registered a homer and double while driving in three. Bonilla had a triple while Goings recorded a double.
On the mound,
Christian Aragon went 7.2 frames, tallying nine strikeouts. He gave up two earned runs on three hits.
