Pacers Knock Off Bearcats

AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team earned a 10-2 victory over the Lander Bearcats Saturday afternoon. 

The Pacers improve to 28-16 overall while boasting a 19-7 record in PBC play. 

The Bearcats would strike first, scoring one in the top of the first inning.

However, the Pacers would respond in the bottom of the stanza. Jose Bonilla would reach first base on an error, followed by a Daulton Weeks double, advancing Bonilla to third. With one out, Nile Goings grounded out to second base to drive in Bonilla. Conner Durden followed with a two-run homer to increase the lead to 3-1. 

In the bottom of the third inning, Durden grounded out third base with the bases loaded, driving in Weeks for a 4-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the fourth, Brady O'Neil doubled to left field, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Chandler Rogers, advancing O'Neil to third. With two out, Weeks doubled to left center, plating O'Neil for a 5-1 score.

The Bearcats would score a run in the fifth inning. However, the Pacers would tally a run from the sixth through the eighth innings to finish with a 10-2 score. 

For the game, Weeks led the way with four hits. Brian Parreira, Durden and Smithers tallied two hits apiece. Weeks and Durden each registered three RBI.

Christan Aragon was dominant on the mound, only allowing two runs through 6.0 innings while registering 10 strikeouts. Brooks Calvo picked up the save, working 3.0 innings while striking out four.

The Pacers return to action Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., against Lander University for game three of the three game series. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com
