AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team dropped a 9-3 contest to North Georgia in the second game of the three-game series Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 14-7 overall, including a 5-3 conference record.
After
Mitch Spence held the Nighthawks scoreless, the Pacers would strike first. In the bottom of the first inning,
Joey Smithers smacked a single to the shortstop, followed by a
Conner Durden single to right field. With one out,
Nile Goings blasted a single to left field, scoring Smithers from second for a 1-0 edge.
North Georgia knotted the score at 1-1 in the third inning. In the fifth and sixth innings, the Nighthawks took the lead and extended the margin to 7-1.
The Pacers would respond in the bottom of the sixth, starting with a
Brian Parreira walk. Following the base on balls,
Daulton Weeks crushed a 2-0 pitch over the center field wall for a two-run homer, cutting the deficit to 7-3. However, the Pacers' offense remained silent for the rest of the game.
Weeks, Goings, and Durden each had two hits in the contest, with Weeks registering two RBI and Goings adding one.
On the mound,
Mitch Spence went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs while striking out five.
