Farrar’s Big Game Sends Pacers Past Hurricanes

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team posted a 78-62 victory over Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon in a league contest.

The Pacers are now 5-1 on the year and 2-0 in league action. The Hurricanes fall to 3-3 on the year and 0-1 against conference foes.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Kwajelin Farrar's career-high 32 points and 16 rebounds. She hit 14-of-20 from the floor and added a pair of blocks in 23 minutes of work.

Grace Crawford came off the bench to hit for 12 points while Madeline Sexton accounted for 11 points and six boards.

Sade Johnson scored seven points, dished out six assists and snagged nine rebounds. Star Toomey had nine rebounds, scored four points and swatted three shots in 15 minutes of work.

After trailing 7-6, Madeline Sexton buried a three-ball off a pass from Chandler for a 9-7 edge. Farrar took a pass from Melyk Taouil and converted the inside shot. On the ensuing possession, Farrar soared over a defender for a 13-7 lead. Grace Crawford added to the margin on a jumper off the glass. Alex Canady's shot with 2:24 to play in the quarter made it 18-9.

USC Aiken extended the margin to 10 on a jumper by Sade Johnson at the 6:52 mark in the second stanza. The Pacers pushed the lead to 14 on a pair of charity tosses from Farrar, making it 31-17 with 4:35 to play before halftime. Miller's team continued to force the Hurricanes into tough shots, resulting in a 36-24 lead at the break.

In the first half, Miller's defense allowed the visitors to connect on just one-of-11 from downtown (9.1 percent) and 11-for-45 from the floor (24.4 percent).

After the Pacers saw their lead shrink to three, 58-55, the home team went inside to Farrar. Johnson found Farrar for three straight field goals, including one that resulted in a three-point play for a 65-55 advantage. Behind Farrar's 15 points and eight rebounds in the quarter, USC Aiken pushed the score to 74-56 with 3:35 to go and never looked back.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 33-of-62 from the floor (61.5 percent) and out-rebounded the visitors 59-30. Miller's team dished out 19 assists on 33 field goals and swatted six shots in the victory.
