AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team posted a 100-70 victory over North Greenville Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 4-0 on the season while the Crusaders fall to 1-3.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was led by
Doniel Dean's game-high 22 points. He also dished out a game-best seven assists and three thefts.
Faison Brock and
Ty'lik Evans added 18 points apiece while
Xzavier Barmore and
Robert Hill contributed nine markers each. Hill snagged a game-high nine rebounds.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 35-of-65 from the floor (53.8 percent), including 13-of-31 from downtown (41.9 percent). The squad went to the charity stripe 22 times, converting 17 attempts (77.3 percent).
The pacers dished out 20 assists on 35 field goals. USC Aiken outscored NGU 35-13 off the bench and held a 22-7 edge in fast break points. Vanderslice's squad led from start to finish in the 30-point victory.
Hill's three-point play at the 13:07 mark of the first half pushed the lead to 18-8 for USC Aiken. The Crusaders pulled within seven, but
Melvin McKie and Dean connected on back-to-back shots for a 23-11 margin.
The Pacers extended their lead at the 3:49 mark to 20 points on Dean's jumper. A pair of charity tosses by Dean made it 42-20 with 1:27 to go. USC Aiken stayed in front by 21 at the break, 46-25.
USC Aiken's lead never dipped below 18 points (66-48) in the second half. Immediately after the margin was at 18, Barmore made a lay-up to push it to 22 points.
Vanderslice's squad was up 90-68 at the 3:29 mark before Brock nailed a three-ball.
Myles Washington hit two free throws to make it 95-68. Brock hit another shot from downtown before Hill connected on a jumper for the 30-piont victory.
