Pacers Drop Road Match

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team dropped a 3-0 contest at Augusta Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers fall to 14-3 overall and 4-1 in league play while the Jaguars improve to 15-4 overall and 4-2 against conference competition.

USC Aiken dropped the sets by scores of 25-14, 26-24 and 32-30.

Christine Carroll led the way with 15 kills while hitting .314. Alie Smith notched a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs. Kayla Duggan added nine kills in the match.

Ali Kirk dished out 24 assists while Alli Bell had 11 assists and 11 digs.

Defensively, Rebecca Martinez accounted for 29 digs.

After dropping the first set, USC Aiken fought back to take a 23-22 lead after four straight points in the second frame. The spurt was started by Carroll. Smith blocked a shot before Carroll and Smith registered back-to-back kills. Carroll's kill made it 24-23, but the home squad scored three straight to take the set.

Trailing 19-17 in the third, Smith slammed home a kill before three straight errors by the Jaguars gave the Pacers a 21-19 advantage. Augusta led 24-23, but Carroll evened the match on a kill from Carroll.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team had a back-and-forth affair with Augusta for the next few points and Duggan knotted it at 30-30, but the Jaguars scored the final two points to clinch the match.

The Pacers return to action on Oct. 19 when they travel to Francis Marion for a 7 p.m. start. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
