Pacers Play To Double-Overtime Tie

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team played to a double-overtime 2-2 tie against Clayton State Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 3-10-1 on the season and 1-7-1 in league play.

After falling behind 2-0 in the early going of the first half, Monica Armendariz knotted the contest at the 24:44 mark. Off a corner kick, Armendariz headed home the pass, making it 2-1. Willa Olson and Amanda Raleigh were credited with assists on the play.

In the 36th minute, Gressa Olson found Willa Olson off a cross, making it 2-2.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the second stanza, but the defenses were up to the challenge. Head coach Hilary George's squad had a golden chance in the 85th minute of action. The Pacers played the ball to the left side of the box. A pass found Willa Olson's foot, but her shot was turned away from point-blank range.

The Pacers took control of the ball and pushed forward in the closing seconds, but the team was unable to get a shot off.

For the match, Armendariz and Willa Olson each tallied a score. Willa Olson, Gressa Olson and Raleigh garnered assists. Willa Olson had four shots on the night, including three on goal. Amanda Giordano had two shots, including one on frame.

Kwatowski played all 110 minutes between the pipes. She stopped 14 shots in the tie.

Neither squad could score in the first overtime period, but Tashiana Kwatowski kept the contest at 2-2 with a spectacular save in the final minute. On a breakaway, the Lakers blasted a shot toward the right side of the goal. However, Kwatowski jumped to her left and punched the ball away for arguably the toughest and most spectacular save of the season.

The Pacers return to action Saturday on Senior Day when they host Georgia College at 1 p.m. Prior to the match, the seniors will be honored. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
