Box Score FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a hard-fought 1-0 contest at Francis Marion Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 3-6-2 on the season and 0-4-2 in league play.
Neil Hamilton nearly put head coach
Ike Ofoje's team on the board in the 24
th minute. His shot from 15 yards out veered toward the frame, but hit the post, leaving the contest scoreless.
Trailing 1-0 early in the second half,
Jordan Misiri blasted a shot from 14 yards out, but it was stopped by the keeper.
Misiri launched a bending attempt just outside the box in the 56
th minute of action, but the keeper made the stop.
Ofoje's squad earned a pair of corner kicks in the 63
rd minute, but neither resulted in a shot on goal by the visitors. In the 64
th minute,
Andre Salviano booted a pass toward the frame, but it was saved.
After neither team managed much offense for the next 10 minutes, Salviano earned a corner kick at the 74:42 mark.
Edgar Zambrano followed it up with a header that sailed just wide of the goal.
USC Aiken tried to tie the contest in the final few minutes of play. Salviano rocketed a shot that was high in the 85
th minute. As the team continued pushing forward, Salviano had a shot blocked a minute later.
The Pacers earned back-to-back corner kicks in the 87
th minute, but neither turned into scoring opportunities.
For the match, USC Aiken held an 8-7 edge in shots, but the Patriots managed to have a 5-3 advantage in shots on goals.
Ofoje's team posted a 7-4 margin in corner kicks.
Alejandro Chavarria played all 90 minutes between the pipes. He stopped four shots.
