YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost a 69-51 contest at Young Harris Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 5-14 overall and 2-11 in league play.
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by
Marissa Bruce's game-high 17 points. She also snagged six boards in the contest.
Kyrie' Chandler accounted for 16 points while
Phenicia Howard and
Sade Johnson tallied six markers apiece.
On the glass, Johnson garnered a game-best nine rebounds.
Chandler gave the Pacers a 6-5 edge with 4:47 to play in the first period. However, the Mountain Lions concluded the stanza on an 11-5 run for a six-point advantage.
USC Aiken cut the deficit to three at 17-14 on a lay-up from Chandler off a pass from Howard at the 8:52 mark. YHC managed to slowly increase its lead en route to a 31-23 halftime edge.
Miller's team started the second half out strong, pulling within two after a 6-0 run to start the stanza. Bruce hit a jumper before Chandler and Taouil knocked down shots of their own, making it a 31-29 game.
The Pacers knotted the game at 34-34 after Bruce converted an old-fashioned three-point play with 5:39 to go in the third quarter. YHC closed the frame on a 10-3 run for a 49-41 advantage heading to the fourth.
The Mountain Lions started the final period on a 15-3 run and never looked back.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 20-of-69 from the floor (29 percent), including three-of-21 from distance (14.3 percent). The squad connected on eight-of-13 from the charity stripe (61.5 percent). The team was outrebounded 44-40, but held a 12-8 advantage in steals.
