MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team posted an 84-75 victory at Georgia College Monday afternoon in a Peach Belt contest.
The Pacers are now 9-4 overall and 6-3 in league play. The Bobcats are 8-7 on the year and 4-5 against conference competition.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was led by
Markus Terry's team-best 20 points on seven-of-11 shooting.
Doniel Dean added 13 points and six assists while
Paris Ballinger and
Henry Bolton III each contributed 12 markers.
Robert Hill narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and a game-best 13 rebounds. He made all four of his shot attempts from the floor.
Faison Brock and
Austin Grimes each chipped in six points while
Nenad Milenkovic and
Kyle Tackeberry notched a three-pointer apiece.
USC Aiken found itself down 10-4 in the early going, but Brock took a pass from Dean to slice into the lead. Terry hit a free throw and Dean drained a three-ball for a 12-10 edge at the 15:17 mark.
The Pacers made it 28-23 with 7:57 to go in the half after a three-pointer from Terry. USC Aiken held a six-point margin late, but ended up leading the Bobcats 37-34 at the break.
Vanderslice's team led by five, 50-45, but increased the margin on a lay-up by Grimes at the 10:51 mark. Bolton III pushed the advantage to 10 with 8:23 to play, but the Bobcats battled back, trimming the deficit to seven with under a minute to play. However, the squad made some foul shots down the stretch for the win.
For the game, USC Aiken buried 26-of-60 shots from the floor (52 percent), including a nine-of-20 effort from downtown (45 percent). The squad got to the charity stripe 30 times and calmly connected on 23 attempts (76.7 percent).
Vanderslice's team dished out 15 assists and registered seven steals in the game. USC Aiken's bench outscored the home team 24-8.
