AIKEN, S.C. – Behind three goals and an assist from
Driss Baraket, the University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team posted a 4-2 victory over SCAD Monday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-1 on the season while the Bees fall to 2-3.
After an early goal from
Roberto Biendicho that Baraket assisted on, he took over the offense and scored the final three tallies for USC Aiken.
In the 10
th minute of action,
Leonardo Targia made a save and head coach
Ike Ofoje's team quickly countered. Baraket took the ball down the right side of the pitch. It was played to
Kento Ito. Biendicho ended up with the ball and booted it into the lower left corner for a 1-0 advantage.
The Pacers increased their lead in the 40
th minute of play.
Chukwudi Apugo took possession of the ball near midfield. He promptly played the ball near the top of the box to Baraket, who blasted a shot into the lower left corner of the goal for a 2-0 edge.
The Bees answered just 39 seconds later on a penalty kick, making it 2-1. The visitors knotted the contest in the 53
rd minute.
After the equalizer was tallied by SCAD, Ofoje's team regrouped and promptly pushed forward.
In the 60
th minute of action,
Andre Simmond played the ball into the box.
Brett Smith flicked it to the near side and Baraket hammered home his second goal of the day for a 3-2 margin.
With the assist, Simmond became the school's all-time assist leader with 26 during his illustrious career.
The Pacers were not done. In the 78
th minute,
Daniel Orillac played the ball across the pitch to Baraket. He took a dribble, turned and rocketed home a shot to the lower left side of the frame for his final goal and a 4-2 lead.
For the match, Targia played all 90 minutes between the pipes. He accounted for a pair of saves in his first start.
USC Aiken held a 13-7 edge in shots and a 7-5 margin in corner kicks.
