Pacers Blank Bobcats In PBC Match

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over Georgia College Friday evening in a Peach Belt Conference contest.

The Pacers are now 12-2 on the season, including a 4-0 mark in league play. The Bobcats fall to 7-3 on the season, including 3-2 in league play.
 
Leading the way for head coach Glenn Cox's team was Julia Forster, who accounted for 13 kills while accounting for 10 digs. Forster hit .370 for the night.

Alie Smith notched 10 kills to go along with seven digs. Christine Carroll garnered seven kills and hit .500. She was in on a team-best four blocks. Alicia Hines hammered home six kills while hitting .600.

Avery Macklin hit .313 and stuffed four shots.

Emily Teelon dished out a match-best 35 assists and tallied eight digs. She also hit .375 in the match.

Rebecca Martinez led everyone with 23 digs while Natalie Perrault chipped in 11.
 
In the opening set, USC Aiken took control early, reeling off the first three points thanks in part to a block from Carroll and Macklin and two errors by the visitors. Carroll and another error pushed the margin to 5-1.
 
The Bobcats pulled within three at 12-9 and 16-13, but Alicia Hines hammered home a kill for a four-point margin. Forster's kill made it 21-14, forcing a time-out by the visitors. The team cruised the 25-18 win on a kill by Smith.
 
The second frame was closer. Tied at 6-6, Forster sliced the defense for a kill and an ace. Hines followed it up with a kill for a three-point margin.

The Pacers increased the lead to six on a kill by Hines, making it 16-10. The Bobcats would get no closer the rest of the way. Leading 22-15, Forster posted back-to-back kills. Two plays later, an error by GC made it 25-16.

After intermission, USC Aiken and Georgia College were tied at 4-4 in the third frame. The Pacers embarked on a 7-0 run that started after an error by the Bobcats. During the spurt, Smith, Hines and Forster all rattled off kills.

The visitors pulled within four at 12-8, but Cox's group reeled off 10 straight points to put the match away. During the run, Kelsey Spurlin had a kill, Lauren Howard served up an ace and Okwunne Ogbogu was in on a block. Leading 22-9, Julianna Hoekwater slammed home a kill. Kayla Duggan made it 24-10 before a miscue by the visitors made it 25-11.
