Pacers Sweep Jaguars With 6-1 Victory

AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 22 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team posted a 6-1 victory over Augusta to complete the three-game sweep.

The Pacers are now 27-10 on the season and 12-6 against conference foes.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, head coach Kenny Thomas' team loaded the bases with three straight singles. Zach Moon lifted a fly ball to left field that was deep enough for Jose Bonilla to score, knotting the contest at 1-1.

With two outs in the second inning, David Lankster ripped a single to left field. Bonilla singled to center field and both runners were able to trot home when Luke Westerberg blasted a three-run shot over the left field wall to make it 4-1. Mitchell Price notched his second hit of the afternoon on the very next pitch as he belted a solo homer to left field for a 5-1 advantage.

The Jaguars tried to cut into the margin in the top of the third. With runners on the corners and two away, Daulton Weeks dove to his right, snagging a line drive for the final out.

Brian Parreira's single allowed Jonathan Banks to score in the fifth, making it 6-1. Banks had previously reached base on a walk and moved to second on Weeks' groundout.

Christian Aragon worked 6.1 innings, giving up just one run on three hits en route to earning the victory. He struck out four in the game. Nick Yobbi came in and tossed the final 2.2 frames.

For the game, Bonilla, Lankster, Price and Westerberg registered two hits apiece. Westerberg led the team with three RBI. Bonilla crossed home twice.

The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they travel to Newberry. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
