AIKEN, S.C. - The No. 19 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team defeated the Chowan Hawks 10-3 in the series finale Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 36-11 on the season while the Hawks fall to 24-23.
Nile Goings got the offense started in the second inning with a lead-off triple.
Brian Parreira hit a sacrifice fly to give USC Aiken a 1-0 advantage.
The Hawks were able to even the score at 1-1 in the fourth frame, but the Pacers responded with a run of their own to take a 2-1 lead.
Head Coach
Kenny Thomas' team added another run in the fifth inning on a double by
Jose Bonilla, pushing the score to 3-1. Chowan fought back by adding a run in the sixth.
Mitchell Price and Goings started off the Pacers' half of the inning with back-to-back singles. Price was able to cross home on a double steal. Connor Durden added an RBI double while
Skylar Mercado contributed an RBI single, respectively. After the sixth, USC Aiken held a 6-2 edge.
The Hawks were able to tack on a run in the seventh frame, but the Pacers earned two runs of their own. The squad added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 10-3.
For the game,
Connor Riley got the win with 11 strikeouts, garnering his 100
th strikeout in the contest. Freddie Beamon also made his first appearance on the mound tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
Offensively, Goings and Durden both went two-for-three on the day. Goings had a triple and an RBI single, while Durden contributed a single and a two-RBI double.
