AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 3 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team posted a 15-1 victory over Saint Rose Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 16-3 on the season.
Head coach
Kenny Thomas' team broke open the game in the second inning with four runs.
Alex Mills scored on a wild pitch to get things going. With the bases loaded,
Mitchell Price roped a single into left field, plating
Joey Smithers and
Jose Bonilla.
Two batters later,
Daulton Weeks drew a full count base on balls, driving in a run by walking.
USC Aiken added five runs in the third. Bonilla singled in Westerberg for a 5-0 advantage.
Jonathan Banks made a statement with a base hit to left field, scoring
Skylar Mercado. Price delivered a single to right field, scoring Bonilla. The Pacers registered a steal to second while Banks crossed home. Then,
Daulton Weeks finished the scoring in the frame with a single to score Price.
In the fifth, Thomas' team plated a pair of runs. The first came when Price lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Bonilla.
Brian Parreira launched a deep fly ball to left, scoring Banks for the 11-0 edge.
With the bases loaded in the seventh,
Alex Mills drove in
Andre Brown III because he was hit by a pitch.
Luke Westerberg walked, scoring Parreira. Then, a wild pitch pushed everyone up 90 feet as
David Lankster, who walked earlier, crossed home plate for a 14-1 advantage.
For the game, Price drove in four runs while Weeks plated two. Banks, Bonilla and Price all had three hits apiece. Banks and Bonilla each trotted across home plate three times.
Connor Norton tossed three innings to start the game. He struck out three.
Jamie Morlan struck out six in three innings while
Hunter Hubbard fanned three batters in two innings of competition.
Bryse Buster closed out the game for USC Aiken.
