AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 22 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team posted a 7-0 victory over Emmanuel Wednesday evening.
The Pacers improve to 22-9 on the season.
Neither team could get on the scoreboard through the first five innings of play.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Mitchell Price ignited USC Aiken's offense with a single to center. He advanced to second on a balk and quickly stole third. Price crossed home on a wild pitch to give head coach
Kenny Thomas' team a 1-0 lead.
Tyler Ammerman kept the momentum going with a double to start the seventh.
Skylar Mercado bunted and Ammerman trotted home on a throwing error to extend the Pacers' lead to 2-0.
The Pacers scored five insurance runs in the eighth.
Brian Parreira singled to the gap in right center field. Ammerman walked and
Joey Smithers lined a single to left center to load the bags.
Jose Bonilla drew a base on balls for a 3-0 edge.
Jonathan Banks' sacrifice fly plated Ammerman for a 4-0 margin. Price walked to load the bases.
After a pitching change,
Nile Goings ripped a two-RBI single to left field for the six-run advantage. With the bases loaded two batters later, Parreira worked the count full before earning a walk, scoring what turned out to be the final run of the game.
James Lynch worked four scoreless frames. He struck out two and gave up just three hits.
Nick Yobbi tossed three innings of solid work, giving up two hits while fanning two.
William Ard closed the final two stanzas by striking out a pair and allowing two hits.
