Benitez And Durden Shine In Win Over Railsplitters

AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 5 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team established a school and PBC record with three triples in one inning en route to an 8-1 victory over Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 2-0 on the season while the Railsplitters fall to 0-2.

After being held scoreless for the first two frames, head coach Kenny Thomas' team broke the game open in the third with four runs.

Luke Westerberg opened the third with a double to the wall in left center field. He easily scored when Mitchell Price tripled to the wall in right field.

With two down, Tyler Ammerman blasted a triple to right field, plating Price. Daulton Weeks belted a triple to the gap in right center field, establishing a school and Peach Belt Conference record for triples in an inning. His base knock allowed Ammerman to trot home. Conner Durden's infield single scored Weeks for a 4-0 advantage.

USC Aiken increased its advantage to 5-0 when Luke Westerberg lifted a high fly ball that narrowly cleared the left field wall through for a round-tripper. The Pacers added to the advantage in the fifth when Jose Bonilla singled home Durden, who had previously reached on a single.

In the sixth, USC Aiken extended its margin when Durden smacked a single to right field, plating Zach Moon, who drew a base on balls earlier in the frame. LMU plated a run in the seventh off a solo round-tripper to make it 7-1.

The Pacers would extend their lead back to seven when Durden crushed a solo homer over the right-field wall to make it 8-1 in the bottom of the eighth.
