AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 3 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team claimed the series victory with a 15-5 win over Young Harris Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 11-2 on the season while the Mountain Lions fall to 3-10.
Nile Goings led the way with a game-best four RBI on a three-for-five effort at the plate.
Tyler Ammerman added three RBI while
Jose Bonilla and
Conner Durden each accounted for two RBI.
Luke Westerberg, Durden,
Jonathan Banks and
Daulton Weeks registered two hits apiece while Bonilla, Durden,
Zach Moon, Banks, Weeks and Ammerman all crossed home twice each.
Joseph Benitez toed the rubber and went 6.2 innings for his third win of the season. He struck out eight batters while giving up three earned runs in the win.
William Ard tossed 1.1 innings while
Collin Beasley went two-thirds of a frame.
Jamie Morlan recorded the last out of the game via a strikeout.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Durden singled home Bonilla to knot the score. After Moon walked and Banks took one for the team, Goings ripped a double to right center field to clear the bases.
After the visitors made it 4-3 in the top of the fifth, head coach
Kenny Thomas' team broke open the game over the next three frames, including a seven-run seventh inning.
Ammerman belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-3. Durden had a lead-off homer in the sixth while
Skylar Mercado drew a bases loaded walk for an 8-3 contest.
USC Aiken's seven-run seventh inning was highlighted by Bonilla's single to center field, plating a pair of Pacers.
YHC scored two in the top of the ninth, but USC Aiken held too much of a lead for the visitors to mount a comeback.
